Wastewater Security Assessment Guide for Small Communities Now Available
Morgantown, WV-One legacy of the September 11 terrorist attacks is a heightened awareness of the vulnerability of our nation's critical infrastructure. Utilities around the country are looking for ways to help prevent and mitigate the loss of service from extreme events, natural disasters and more chronic concerns such as vandalism.
The National Environmental Training Center for Small Communities (NETCSC) has published a security vulnerability self-assessment guide specific to small community wastewater systems. Protecting Your Community's Assets: A Guide for Small Wastewater Systems is now available for free.
The guide is user friendly and helps utility managers, operators, and local officials improve security and plan for emergency situations affecting wastewater treatment systems. It is designed for those who work with systems serving fewer than 10,000 people, although those who work with larger systems may also find it useful.
While supplies last, small community personnel may request copies of this guide for their vulnerability assessment team to use by calling (800) 624-8301 or (304) 293-4191, and requesting product number TRBKMG03. You may view or download a PDF version of the guide from the NETCSC Web site at: www.nesc.wvu.edu/netcsc.
