TOUGHER ANIMAL EUTHANASIA RULES PROPOSED

The State Department of Health Services has proposed new rules governing permissible animal euthanasia. Among other requirements, city personnel under the rules would have to ensure that each animal proposed for euthanasia is “scanned for microchip identification.”

Each city that operates an animal shelter that euthanizes animals should review the rules carefully.

A copy of the rules can be read here: http://www.sos.state.tx.us/texreg/archive/January92009/PROPOSED/25.HEALTH%20SERVICES.html#50.

Comments on the proposed rules must be submitted to the Department of Health by February 6.
