TML LEGISLATOR-OF-THE-MONTH FOR JANUARY 2009
House Speaker Joe Straus is the TML Legislator-of-the-Month for January 2009. Speaker Straus represents House District 121 which includes Alamo Heights, Olmos Park, Terrell Hills, Windcrest, and part of San Antonio.
First elected in February 2005, Representative Straus was elected Speaker of the House by his peers at the commencement of the 81st Regular Legislative Session on January 13, 2009.
Speaker Straus has served on the Committee on Economic Development, the Committee on Regulated Industries, and the Committee on Local and Consent Calendars. He also chaired the Subcommittee on Energy Conservation and Efficiency, which developed legislation that put Texas on the cutting edge of energy efficiency.
