CITY ELECTION DATE SURVIVES PRIMARY CHANGE

On March 1, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas issued a court order setting the Texas primary election date as May 29, 2012, with primary runoff elections set to take place on July 31, 2012. The order was issued after a consensus was finally reached on interim district maps for the Texas House, Texas Senate, and Texas Congressional seats following months of legal wrangling over the redistricting maps adopted by the Eighty-Second Texas Legislature. The May uniform election date for city elections remains the same (May 12, 2012), and cities that lease electronic voting machines from the county for use in city elections should contact county election officials to ensure that the machines will still be made available to the city, given the new primary election date.
