CONFEREES NAMED ON STATE BUDGET
Now that the budget has passed both chambers, the House and Senate have appointed a conference committee to work out the differences between the two versions.
Although both proposals include numerous cuts that affect cities, a recent TML survey found the following two issues most important:
- H.B. 1 would reduce the local share of mixed beverage taxes by $26 million per year. These lost proceeds are important because cities pay police officers to enforce drunk driving laws and other alcohol-related offenses.
- H.B. 1 would also cut local parks grants by $17.5 million per year. Cities count on revenue generated from the sporting goods sales tax to fund these important grants.
Concerned city officials should contact members of the conference committee to urge them to restore these critical cuts or prevent further cuts. The members of the conference committee are as follows:
