TML WILL FORM LEGISLATIVE POLICY COMMITTEES IN EARLY 2008
Early next year, the president of the Texas Municipal League will appoint legislative policy committees to help TML prepare for the 2009 legislative session. These committees will study a wide variety of municipal issues and will recommend legislative positions on those issues. Those recommendations will ultimately go forward to the TML Resolutions Committee, which will meet during the 2008 TML Annual Conference.
Committees will most likely consider four, broad categories of municipal issues:
- Municipal revenue and taxation,
- Regulation of development/eminent domain,
- Utilities and transportation, and
- General government (including such issues as open government, elections, public safety, personnel, and others).
Any city official who wishes to volunteer for service on a legislative policy committee should inform the League staff of such interest by sending a letter to Frank Sturzl at TML or an e-mail to committees@tml.org. Please include your name, city, municipal position held, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, and the subject area (see above) in which you have the most interest.
The League will do its best to accommodate all volunteers. Committees typically meet twice, and all meetings will be held in Austin. Committee members must pay their own travel expenses.
