U.S. House of Representatives Passes
Federal Transportation Funding Extension

As reported in last week’s Legislative Update, current federal transportation funding legislation, known as MAP-21 (Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act), expires on September 30, 2014.  Actual funding is expected to run out prior to that date.

Despite municipal and other efforts for comprehensive federal transportation legislation, Congress appears to be focused on a short-term solution to the federal funding shortfall.   To that end, yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5021, a bill that would extend current funding until May 2015.

The bill now moves on to the Senate, which is expected to pass it before federal funding runs out completely.
