SENATOR JUAN “CHUY” HINOJOSA TO CHAIR SENATE INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS COMMITTEE

Senator Juan

The Senate Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) committee will convene under new leadership this session.  Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst appointed Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa (D – McAllen) to lead the IGR committee, which has jurisdiction over important city issues, such as land use, annexation, and special districts.

Senator Hinojosa was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1981, where he served until 1990 and again from 1997 to 2002.  He was elected to the Texas Senate in 2002.  Senator Hinojosa represents Corpus Christi, Edinburg, McAllen, Mission, Alice, Robstown, Hildalgo, and Alton.  In addition to chairing IGR, he serves as vice-chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and sits on the Senate Committees on Agriculture, Rural Affairs, and Homeland Security; Criminal Justice; and Natural Resources.

Senator Hinojosa has twice been named one of Texas’s “Top 10 Legislators” by Texas Monthly magazine and was named 2012 “Border Texan of the Year” for his dedication to bringing economic and educational benefits to South Texas and the Coastal Bend area.

We hope that city leaders across Texas, and particularly those in Senator Hinojosa’s district, will express their appreciation to Senator Hinojosa for his outstanding leadership.
