TEXAS GOVERNOR’S MANSION RESTORATION COMPLETE

On July 18 of this year, Governor Rick Perry and first lady Anita Perry announced that all restorations are complete on the Texas governor’s mansion. The mansion was destroyed over four years ago in a fire caused by arson. Although fire fighters were able to rescue and recover many historic pieces, the condition of the mansion was no longer fit for living.

In March 2009, the League donated $25,000 to the Texas Governor’s Mansion Restoration Fund. League President-Elect John Monaco, mayor of Mesquite, will be representing the League at a “Governor’s Levee” luncheon hosted by Governor Perry to honor supporters of the rebuilding effort. The League is pleased to have been a part of this great preservation of Texas history.
