TCEQ Renews Small MS4 General Permit

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has renewed the general permit for regulated small municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s) to discharge stormwater under the Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System.  The newly-adopted permit became effective on December 13, 2013.

Operators of small MS4s must apply for authorization under the new permit by June 11, 2014.  To obtain permit coverage, MS4s must submit a new Notice of Intent, a $100 application fee, and a stormwater management program. Any existing authorization will remain active until the new application is approved.

MS4s serving a population of less than 1,000 within an urbanized area may qualify for a waiver. Waiver applications must also be submitted before June 11, 2014.

This newly-adopted general permit will expire on December 13, 2018.  A copy of the permit and information on obtaining permit coverage are available on the TCEQ’s website.
