Federal Government Shut Down

Congress thus far has failed to agree on a bill to fund most aspects of the federal government.   The failure resulted in a partial government shutdown that began on Tuesday, October 1.

Federal programs such as Social Security, Medicare, air traffic control, and Veterans’ hospitals will continue to function as usual.  However, national parks and museums will close and 800,000 federal employees across the country will be furloughed.

Federal agencies will be responsible for which programs remain open.  If you have questions on how the shut down of a particular federal program impacts your city, please visit the Office of Management and Budget website  to see each agency’s contingency plan.
